The New Zealand Consulate General in Los Angeles is an overseas post of the New Zealand Government. It is responsible to the New Zealand Ambassador in Washington for pursuing a range of New Zealands interests in the western part of the United States. There are four branches of the New Zealand Government in Los Angeles. All branches work independently under the aegis of the Consulate-General, and have their own structures. The Consulate-General works closely with these other government departments and agencies, as well as the business sector, to promote New Zealand's economic interests in the Western States.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade manages the New Zealand Governments dealings with other countries and international organisations and assists New Zealanders in difficulty overseas. It advises the Government on foreign and trade policy issues that will affect New Zealand's interests in relation to other countries. New Zealand Trade & Enterprise offers the New Zealand business community a single organisation that can provide a range of high quality, responsive and expert services to businesses throughout their life cycle, from start-ups to internationally competitive exporting companies. www.nzte.govt.nz (external link).
Investment New Zealand is the government's investment promotions agency that actively attracts and facilitates foreign direct investment (FDI). FDI may be in the form of joint ventures or partnerships with New Zealand companies, "greenfields" (e.g. start-up companies) investments, or corporate relocations. Tourism New Zealand is responsible for ensuring that New Zealand is marketed as a competitive visitor destination to maximise long-term benefits to New Zealand. Its functions are to develop, implement and promote strategies for tourism; and to advise the Government and the New Zealand tourism industry on matters relating to the development, implementation, and promotion of those strategies. New Zealand Honorary Consuls
The functions of New Zealand Honorary Consuls include helping facilitate contacts and friendly relations between New Zealand and the USA; assisting the Embassy and LA Consulate General in their tasks and with official visitors, representing New Zealand at local ceremonies and functions, providing a focal point for New Zealanders in their area - including with advice for those in distress situations and passports as well as acting as a liaison point for the New Zealand posts; providing information on general enquiries and visas and assisting with fostering New Zealand’s trade with the USA.
